How to Use African Black Soap to Make DIY Shampoo

Our Ninon African black soap bars are incredibly versatile and can be used as more than traditional bar soap. Not only does this soap help to relieve acne, eczema, psoriasis, dry skin and reduce blemishes, but they can be used to ease scalp conditions and soften your hair by turning them into shampoo!

DIY African Black Soap Shampoo Recipe

Making your own do-it-yourself shampoo out of our African Black soap bar is easier than you might think, here are the easy to follow steps:

Step 1

Cut off one-third of the bar of black soap. Use a knife to shave the bar down or use a cheese grater with wide holes and place the broken down bar pieces into a mason jar. Since this soap is soft it should break apart nicely. Keep in mind that the smaller the shavings are the quicker and easier the soap will dissolve in the following steps.

Step 2

Next pour one cup of warm water over the soap stirring to allow the soap to dissolve. Once it has dissolved let it cool to room temperature. Depending on the consistency you want of the final product you can add more or less water.

Step 3

Next, you need to add some moisturizer to ensure the African Black soap shampoo doesn’t dry out your hair. We recommend adding 1.5 tablespoons of jojoba oil, ½ of argan oil, 1 teaspoon of Vitamin E oil.

If you have very dry hair you can also add a ½ teaspoon of coconut oil

Step 4

Next up is adding in your scents by adding essential oils. You can add 10 drops of a single scent like lavender or mint. Or you can mix scents to create a unique blend.

Step 5

Once you are satisfied with your consistency and the scent of your shampoo let it sit for at least two hours prior to using. The shampoo will be good for 3 weeks and should be stored in the refrigerator.
